USPA NEWS - Six soldiers of the 173 US Navy Parachute Brigade, stationed in Vicenza (Italy), were wounded on Tuesday in the maneuver field in Zaragoza, in the North of Spain, in the course of joint Spanish-American maneuvers held within the framework of the cooperation between the armed forces of the member countries of NATO.
The investigation of the event has determined that the accident could have been due to a "wind blow" while Spanish and American paratroopers descended in an exercise developed in the San Gregorio maneuver field in Zaragoza. A total of 13 soldiers were injured, seven Spaniards and six Americans, and were transferred to hospitals in Zaragoza by Spanish Army ambulances. Only one of the injured, a Spanish parachutist, has a reserved prognosis and is admitted to the Hospital Miguel Servet of Zaragoza, while the other 12 have sprains and strains, and were taken to the Military Hospital of Zaragoza.
In the joint exercise they participated the 'Almogávares' Brigade of the Spanish Army and the 173 US Navy Parachute Brigade, based in Vicenza (Italy). Both brigades conducted a joint parachute descent trial in a simulated combat situation. These are vanguard units assigned to NATO and whose preparation is constant because they are constantly alert forces. The military maneuvers of these days are carried out on lands belonging to the Spanish Ministry of Defense, which are used interchangeably by Spanish, European and American units.
